Manifesto

Manifesto for Gender Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Safe Audiences in the Electronic Music Industry and beyond

We, the members of the electronic music community BriDJing Womxn, recognize the urgent need for transformative change within our industry. In order to create an inclusive, equitable and sustainable environment at all levels, we hereby declare our commitment to promoting gender equality, diversity, inclusion, and the safety of audiences. Our manifesto encompasses the following key aspects:

Intersectionality

We acknowledge that identities and experiences are shaped by various intersecting factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, and socio-economic background. We commit to honouring and uplifting diverse voices and perspectives, acknowledging the unique challenges faced by individuals at these intersections.

Career Development, work life balance and decent paid work

We prioritise the holistic well-being and professional growth of individuals within the electronic music industry. We believe that career development, work-life balance, and fair compensation are essential for fostering a thriving and sustainable industry.

We strive to create a nurturing environment that supports the career development and growth of all individuals within the electronic music industry. This includes providing mentorship programs, workshops, and resources to help underrepresented groups overcome barriers and excel in their chosen paths. We aim to dismantle systemic biases that hinder progress and advocate for fair and inclusive opportunities at all levels.

We advocate for sustainable working practices that prioritise the well-being and mental health of individuals. We encourage artists, professionals, and stakeholders to prioritise self-care, set boundaries, and create a harmonious integration of work and personal life.

We firmly believe that all individuals within the electronic music industry should be compensated fairly for their contributions. We advocate for decent paid work, where artists and professionals are remunerated appropriately for their skills, expertise, and time. We actively challenge exploitative practices and promote transparent and equitable financial arrangements.

Equal Opportunities

We firmly believe that everyone should have equal opportunities to participate, contribute, and succeed within the electronic music industry, regardless of their gender, background, or identity. We actively reject discrimination, bias, and gatekeeping practices, and commit to fostering an environment that is open, transparent, and merit-based. We will work towards fair representation and ensure that all individuals have access to platforms for showcasing their talent.

Networking & Advocacy

We understand the power of networks and connections in advancing careers and fostering collaborations. We pledge to create and support networking initiatives that are inclusive and accessible to all, ensuring that opportunities for collaboration and growth are not limited to privileged circles. We encourage the sharing of resources, knowledge, and experiences, fostering a sense of community and collective growth.

Safe & Inclusive Spaces

We are committed to creating safe and inclusive spaces within the electronic music industry. We denounce all forms of harassment, discrimination, and violence, and will actively work to prevent and address such behaviours. We will develop and enforce codes of conduct that prioritise the safety, well-being, and dignity of all individuals, including artists, professionals, and audiences. We encourage reporting mechanisms and support systems to empower victims and hold perpetrators accountable.

Climate Change Urgency

We recognize the urgent need to address climate change. We, as a collective, are committed to taking proactive steps in minimising our environmental impact and promoting sustainability within the electronic music industry.

We prioritise a gender-sensitive approach to environmental impact, understanding that the effects of climate change disproportionately impact marginalised communities, including women and gender minorities. Our actions are guided by the principles of inclusivity and social justice, ensuring that our efforts to address climate change consider the intersecting factors of gender, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic background

Join our movement by signing this manifesto, we dedicate ourselves to upholding the principles of gender equality, diversity, inclusion, and safe audiences within the electronic music industry. We invite all stakeholders – artists, promoters, venues, labels, festivals, media outlets, and fans – to join us on this journey of transformation. Together, we can create a thriving, equitable, and vibrant electronic music community that celebrates and embraces the richness of all its actors. We are the BriDJing Womxn!
